A good architecture like MVVM makes it easy to separate the view from the business logic. But how do you manage the state? Do your presenter, interactor or view model use unidirectional data flow? Do you have a single source of truth of your state? Is you code easy to test and refactor? What about Referential Transparency?
We would like to show case how we jazzed up MVVM by adding a state machine and ideas from Redux to solve all our state related troubles. In this workshop we will develop a simple rating screen, complex enough to demonstrate how easy and clean state management can be and we will answer all the questions we posed above.
Your conference ticket already includes this workshop.

Everyone talks about the benefits of diversity and inclusion in our ever so fast-moving world. But what do we actually mean by diversity? What does an inclusive workplace look like? And more importantly, what gets in the way of us building an inclusive culture?
These are the questions we’ll explore in this interactive session. You’ll learn about unconscious bias as well as the impact it has on you and your decision-making. In the second half of the session, we’ll explore practical actions for taking a more inclusive approach and what difference we can bring to our (working) environment.
The number of participants is limited to 30 and you can get your ticket here. We are offering this workshop on a PWYW basis and recommend 30 Euros per person. All proceeds will be donated to charity.

In the afternoon session, students will explore the basics of using gestures, body language, motion, and their voice to be better communicators. They’ll also learn techniques to encourage confidence in front of an audience. There’s plenty of opportunity to practise. It’s not just theory.
Because our community is always in need of a diverse selection of voices, if you feel you’re a member of any under-represented group in our industry, Jeff has agreed to pay your tuition himself. Please contact scholarships@speakersunion.org for more details.
The full ticket price is 100 Euro and all proceeds will be donated to a charity organization.
Jeff Watkins is an iOS developer living with his daughter and four cats on beautiful Bainbridge Island, Washington. In the past he’s been an itinerant Javascript teacher with his fingers stained by dry erase markers. He lost his fear of public speaking in front of standing room only audiences of more than a thousand fellow engineers. He prefers speaking on non-technical topics at more intimate venues now. His mission is to help make public speaking a common part of the engineer’s toolkit.
In addition to these workshops, the last day of UIKonf will host an unconference-like get-together where everyone can share their knowledge in self-organized labs. If you want to offer a workshop as well, get in touch with us.
